Our
heart-shaped Labyrinth |

Many labyrinths exist today, in churches, parks
and at private residences. In ancient times, labyrinths were used
as a substitute for people who were unable to make a pilgrimage
to a holy site. Traveling the path of the labyrinth allowed them
to experience the essence of the spiritual awakening they would
have had as if on a pilgrimage. Modern mystics use labyrinths
to help those that use it to achieve a relaxed, introspective/meditative
state free of unspoken messages. The result of this “letting
go’ experience is said to be healthy both spiritually and
physically. For some the journey in the labyrinth is one of seeking
personal peace and for others it is a journey to find personal
identity or about seeking purpose in what they do daily. Walking
the labyrinth is where one begins to follow a path to find answers,
resolution and hope.
Labyrinth’s come in many shapes and sizes
and are not to be confused with mazes. Mazes are like puzzles,
whereas a labyrinth is a continuous path leading to a single center
point. It is not designed to be difficult to navigate and each
person who walks a labyrinth may find a different experience in
his or her journey.
The method for walking a labyrinth is simple.
The walker follows the path that leads into the center, and then
often spends some time there. By walking the turns along the path,
the user loses track of direction and of the outside world and
thus quiets the mind. In essence the path traveling and meditative
experience where others have gone before allows the traveler to
release, receive and transform.
Along this path I quietly go
Seeking what I do not know.
I only ask that I be shown
The things for me that must be known
